The car that's designed to fall apart

An automotive design student from Coventry University in England, penned the Flake Project as part of his final-yearassessment piece. The project was two years and two complete revisions in themaking and Feng admits his initial thought about the Flake was thatit was a ''ridiculous task'' to make up a car body out of many smallparts.
Inspiration for his morphing vehicle body comes from the Pixar movie Cars.'I loved the movement of the [Cars] characters and how they leaned into the corners and I wanted to translate that into a realistic vehicle and thought it was an appropriate direction for my final-year project,The car's body breaks up at low speeds but once speeds start to rise it shrinks again, creating a solid surface to help with aerodynamics. heavy braking or while cornering at high speed, parts of the car will open up to adjust downforce and help stick the Flake to the road. The jagged and broken look of the Flake's exterior carries over to the interior, with a seat that shrinks around the driver. The Flake rides on a ring of legsthat also form part of the suspension.'The D-wheels track ground surface and adjust accordinglyThis also enabled it to expand into buggy wheels, allowing it to go off-road, making this a true next-generation all-terrain vehicle.''
