BMW Leads Mercedes in U.S. Luxury Auto Sales By 29 Units

After a close finish in April, BMW is the top-selling luxury brand in the United States. Munich-based automaker took the lead from Mercedes-Benz with 29 units sold more.
As expected, the 2011 BMW sales continue to receive a boost by the new 5 Series and X3 models. The 5 Series sales rose 77 percent last month. BMW deliveries in the U.S. rose 8.9 percent in April to 18,801 compared to the same month last year.
Deliveries for the first four months of the year rose to 71,417 vehicles, to lead Mercedes’ 71,388 sales and the 64,932 deliveries by Lexus.

With all three automakers producing more compelling products, the top premium brand of the year will be decided by a photo finish. In 2010, Lexus finished the year as the highest selling luxury auto brand in the United States, followed by BMW and Mercedes.
The Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz sold 18,042 cars and SUVs last month, 2.3 percent more than a year earlier
