A 28-year-old Bridgewater man on Thursday turned himself in to authorities, two days after allegedly fatally hitting a bicyclist with his car and then fleeing the scene.Court was charged Thursday with second-degree leaving the scene of an accident, policeturned himself in to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office at 4according to a release on the arrest.State Superior Court Judge Angela bail at $50,000, with a 10 percent option, which Gieda posted, according to Capt. Jack Bennett of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
Policethat Bridgewater police received a call at approximately 5:59 a.m. Aug. 16 about a bicyclist being struck by a car on east Main Street.Officers found the body of 54-year-old Ramiro Navarro of Bridgewater lying on the front lawn of a residence.Policetheir investigation revealed that sometime between 2 and 5 a.m., Ramiro was pedaling eastbound on Main Street when his bicycle was struck in the rear by a car. The car then left the scene.Investigators recovered at the scene a damaged red plastic trailer cover that was identified as coming from a 1991-1995 Mercedes Benz 190E, according to the release.
Police asked for the public’s help in locating the car, and, according to the release, a tip was received Thursday morning by Bridgewater police that a car matching the description of the auto police were seeking could be found on Holman Court.
Police inspected the vehicle and found that it had damage to the front passenger headlight assembly and a plastic garbage bag taped to the passenger side of the windshield.
