Taiwan awards 25 Belizeans scholarships

Twenty five Belizeans have received scholarship awards to study in Taiwan through the International Cooperation and DevelopmentFundScholarship Program 2011 and the Taiwan Scholarship Program.

The Republic of China’s Ambassador H.E. David Wu presented the scholarship awards to the students when Belize-TaiwanAlumni Society in Belize hosted an orientation meeting for this year’s recipients at the Chateau Caribbean Hotel on Saturday, August 6.

So far 185 Belizeans have been awarded scholarships to study in Taiwan as part of this program, 80 of whom have completed their studies and  returned to take up positions of responsibility in government and public institutions  and in the private sector.

There are still 80 Belizean students studying in Taiwan in fields  of  public health, agriculture, business administration, engineering and information and communication technology. This is the latest group of 25 scholars who will swell that number to 105, when they depart for Taiwan on August 26.

The combined value of these 25 scholarships is over a million dollars, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon.Wilfred Elrington assured the students, as he urged them to make the most of this opportunity.

Current
scholars Nicole Carballo and Andrei Chell clued them in about adjusting to living and studying in Taiwan.

This year, 19 students have received scholarships. Brian Samayoa and Luis Hernandez will study tropical agriculture at National Pintung University of Science and Technology.

Gale  Quiroz and Evami  Tench will both study business administration at National Cheng-Chi University; while Kimberley  Westby will pursue a Masters in Business Administration in Technology Management at National Tsing Hua University, and Ullyses Augustine will study human resource development at National Taiwan Normal University.

Calyssa  Madrid, Tanya  Parham, Alfonso  Cal and Ismael Rash will study mechanical engineering at Kun Shan University.

Angel  Cowo will pursue a Master’s degree in International Health at National Yang Ming University; while Isola Gongora, Ana Castellanos and Antonio Coyoc will pursue bachelor degree courses in Nursing Administration at the National Taipei University for Nursing and Health Science, where Dawn Elliott will pursue her Master of Science in Nursing. Nedia Romero will seek her masters in Health Care Administration at Taipei Medical University.

Ricky  Usher will study international Trade Management at Ming Chuan University, and Jacqueline Ifield and Ilona Smiling have been accepted into the International Master of Fine Arts Program in Cultural Creative Industry at the Taipei National University of the Arts.

Six other Belizeans have also been awarded scholarships under the Taiwan Scholarship Program 2011 to attend the university of their choice in Taiwan. Melton Morrison will pursue a Doctoral Degree in Educational Policy and Administration at National Taiwan Normal University. Gabriel Guerrero of Belize City will read for a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Design at the National Taiwan Normal University. Ian Olivera of Corozal will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology at the Taipei Medical University.
Sophie Lemus, a St. Catherine Academy graduate, will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at Kun Shan University. Dany Wilberto Ramos from Benque Viejo will read for a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering at the National Cheng Kung University, while Randy Rodolfo Carcamo, a Sacred Heart College graduate from San Ignacio, Cayo will read for a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology at the Southern Taiwan University.
