The Germans from BMW decided to display the plug-in hybrid concept based on the current 5 Series F10 at the Shanghai Auto Show. Specially designed for the Chinese market, the BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid is still in the concept stage but it will be available starting 2013 for the Chinese customers.
BMW and their Chinese friends from Brilliance joined the forces in order to conquer the local market with a hybrid version of the current 5 Series generation, a model that is a best seller in the range.
China is a very attractive market that showed a positive feedback in the past months and this is why BMW decided to create a version dedicated only to this market.
In terms of performance, the BMW Brilliance New Energy Vehicle, as they introduced the model earlier this month, will benefit from a powertrain that combines a conventional engine developing 215 horsepower and an electric unit offering 94 horsepower. You will be able to run 100% electric for about 75 kilometers but using the hybrid ensemble will increase the driving range to 400 kilometers.
