Couple fights off suspect in Incident Saturday night at Washington Square Shopping Center; similar incident earlier Saturday
A woman and her companion successfully fought off a man who attempted to rob the woman after asking to use her cell phone at the Washington Square Shopping Center Saturday night.
Petaluma police
attempted strong arm robbery occurred at 7:55 p.m. at the shopping center on South McDowell that includes Safewand Staples.
Police
the woman flagged down officers after the incident. She reported that the suspect was a black man, 5-foot, 5-inches tall, about 160 pounds, with a thin beard, no mustache, short curly hair, and wearing all dark clothing and a black baseball cap.

the man, after asking to use the cell phone, attempted to forcibly grab the woman’s jewelry from her neck area.
The woman and a male were able to fight off the subject before he was able to remove her property, police
The suspect fled the area southbound on foot out of the shopping center. The woman did not receive any injuries during the incident.
Cotati Police had a report of a similar incident approximately two hours prior at a shopping center, Petaluma police
The suspect in Cotati matched the suspect’s description provided to the Petaluma police.
