A shoplifting suspect is accused of stabbing a United Markets clerk in the chest, and attempting to stab another employee in the meat department Sunday.
San Rafael police officers are searching for a man accused of shoplifting and stabbing a employee Sunday afternoon, according to police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher.
At approximately 4 p.m. Aug. 14, officers responded to reports of a shoplifting suspect who stabbed a United Markets clerk in the chest, and attempted to stab another employee in the meat department.
The suspect entered the store on 515 Third Street and grabbed groceries from the shelves. He attempted to leave without paying, but was detained. During an interview with United Markets staff, he pulled out a knife, held it to the throat of one of the employees and then fled, Rohrbacher
Employees chased him through the store. He stabbed the clerk before heading toward East Francisco Boulevard in a black Audi,“Luckily, the clerk received only superficial injuries,” RorhbacherThe Audi’s license plate had been stolen from an unassociated vehicle in Sausalito.
The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 pounds, with shoulder length brown hair and a visible tattoo on one of his calves. He was wearing gray checkered shorts and a brown knit beanie cap, according to Rohrbacher.
