Opel and Chevrolet reveal new models, concepts due at Frankfurt show

General Motors has unveiled some of the new models it intends to debut from its two largest European brands at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.

From the Opel brand will be four new world

debuts, General MotorsAugust 16, including a new

compact coupé, a new Zafira Tourer and the Combo passenger car-van.

The expected highlight, however, is the September 13 unveiling of a new concept Opel promises will explore "a new interpretation of mobility," designed to align with the Frankfurt show's theme of future motoring.

Alongside the new vehicle will be the extended-range Opel Ampera, the European cousin of the Chevrolet Volt, which will be available at dealerships at the end of 2011.

Opel's sister brand Chevrolet will also be on display, showing several concepts in Europe for the first time.
Among them is a rally version of the Colorado, a boosted version of the toughoptimized for rallysport that includes a high-performance steering wheel, a high-adjustable suspension system, a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine and a firefighting system

At the other end of the scale is the smaller Chevrolet Miray, a hybrid vehicle first unveiled earlier this year in Korea, which draws on Chevrolet's sports car heritage and features a sleek, futuristic design.

Automakers from around the world are gearing up for the Frankfurt Motor Show, one of the largest on the motoring calendar - although one name has already pulled out.

the troubled Swedish brand that halted production in March after running out of cash, announced on itsAugust 15 that displaying at the event wouldn't be an "appropriate use of resources."
