Mercedes SLS AMG E-CELL supercar

.Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bugatti still rule in the petrol-power performance rankings but a new generation of plug-in battery cars is likely to take the high ground within five years.Mercedes-Benz has just revealed an electric SLS sports car that will sprint to 100km/h in just four seconds and Audi is on a similar track with it e-tron models, after teasing with a battery-powered R8 sports car in 2009 and then unveiling a smaller e-tron two seater at this year's Detroit Motor Show.  Porsche also has its hybrid 918 supercar and hints it could go all the way with battery power inside 10 years.Electric cars will be important in the future for sports cars,” says Porsche boss Michael Macht.  Hybrid cars are already showing the advantage of a battery zap, from the locally-made Toyota Camry to a Porsche 911 hybrid that raced this year in the Nurburgring 24-hour race, as they get a turbocharger effect without an energy penalty.Full electric cars come with massive torque for sensational sprint ability and, despite current limitations on their range, both Mercedes- Benz and Audi have top speeds of more than 200km/h for their green heroes.  "Electric is definitely an interesting option to look at.
