The new Baojun 630 sedan made its national debut today at the and it will have its global motor show premiere on the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) stand at Auto Shanghai 2011. The midsize vehicle was developed locally using GM technology. It is the first member of SGMW’s new Baojun brand of passenger vehicles that will be available nationwide. The Baojun 630 will go on sale shortly after the auto show concludes.
The Baojun 630 infuses global design elements in response to the demand of Chinese consumers along with “user-friendly” styling and equipment in line with local preferences. The result is a product that offers global quality, dynamic styling, a fully adaptable interior, outstanding safety, power and control, and segment-leading fuel economy.
SGMW leveraged GM’s global expertise in engineering, manufacturing and many other areas. Product development, parts and components sourcing, quality control, and distribution channel development were all carried out in accordance with GM’s worldwide standards.
The Baojun 630 has a sporty presence. The front face – with its “dual-wing” design – and smooth, flowing sidelines give the sedan a dynamic presence. The interior is both roomy and adaptable thanks to the Baojun 630’s segment-leading 2,640-mm wheelbase. There are more than 22 individual storage spaces for convenient storage and retrieval.The Baojun 630 has incorporated a “complete safety design,” with the extensive use of high-strength steel and the adoption of anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, three-point seat belts with early warning restraints, reverse drive radar, child safety seat fasteners and safety locks. The front suspension provides additional protection for passengers and pedestrians. Headlights shut off automatically, helping reduce energy consumption and maintenance costsPowering the Baojun 630 is a 1.5-liter DOHC engine, which generates maximum power of 81 kW/5,800 rpm and maximum torque of 146 Nm/4,200 rpm. It has fuel consumption of 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers. As a result, the Baojun 630 meets all local emission standards as well as the advanced Euro IV standard. The engine is mounted on a specially adjusted chassis, ensuring full-power control and the ability to adapt to a variety of road conditions.SGMW has created a new distribution network that is implementing international standards for sales and service. SGMW plans to initially have 150 Baojun dealers nationwide; 299 dealers are expected to be up and running by year end.As it prepares to begin sales of the Baojun 630, SGMW has launched a nationwide “happiness” campaign on the Internet. It is encouraging people to submit stories about how they pursued happiness in their lives. The results will be announced during the official launch ceremony for the Baojun 630.The Baojun 630 will be manufactured at SGMW’s facility in , Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. To support the new brand, the government of Guangxi broke ground on a new passenger vehicle production base in. It will enhance SGMW’s ability to develop and produce additional Baojun models.
