Sick-leave measure divides Denver’s health community

A growing schism exists in the Denver health care community over a proposed paid sick leave ordinance, as hospitals are coming out against the initiative while some rank-and-file doctors and nurses are beginning to speak for it.Campaign for a Healthy Denver, the coalition of community and public health associations supporting Initiative 300, held a rally outside of Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver Wednesday talking about the public health benefits of passing the ordinance on the city’s November ballot.A doctor and nurse were among the speakers saying that some medical professionals must choose now between exposing their patients to their sickness or losing their jobs for not going into work when ill.
