Landslides, hampering rescue efforts after the earthquake of India

Police and media in India on Monday said the rains and landslides have hampered the search for survivors of the magnitude 6.8 earthquake killed at least 53 people in remote regions of the Himalayas, which stretch across India, Nepal and Tibet.

Police confirmed in the state of Sikkim in northeastern India, at least 31 victims. Sikkim and is the center of the quake, which occurred on Sunday night and were reported more deaths in Nepal and Tibet.

And without the thick clouds prevented helicopter flights over the areas affected and authorities say the toll could rise as rescue teams could not reach to remote areas

The state of Sikkim is the least populous states of India and is located in the Himalayan region between Nepal and Bhutan, Tibet and exposed to landslides and a number of high-rise buildings.

And killed at least two in the state of Bihar, south of Sikkim, while six died in the state of West Bengal, India.

And outside India, killing at least seven people in neighboring Nepal, including three killed after the collapse of a wall in the vicinity of the British embassy in Kathmandu over a car and a motorcycle. The news agency said the New China (Xinhua) Seven people were killed in the restive region of Tibet.

There were landslides and heavy rains, slowing the arrival of thousands of soldiers and rescue workers and paramedics to the worst-hit areas in Sikkim. Many of them were on their way there from the nearest airport to Sikkim, 100 km
