Health Minister Matthews is recommending a supervisor be put in place to oversee the Niagara Health System.
Matthews tells 610 it wasn't a decision she took lightly. Still, it had become clear to her that Niagarans have lost confidence in the , adding when people take a loved one to the hospital, they have to know that person is going to have the best possible care.
Based on conversations she had, that was not the case.
reputation has taken a beating with the recent C.difficile outbreak that his killed 31 people in the Niagara region. As for theBoard Chairman Paul Leon says anything that helps bring the best healthcare to the residents of Niagara is encouraging.
He says it'll take firm guidence by the supervisor to bring together the seperate agendas of the various municipalities of Niagara but admits, a fresh set of eyes may be what's needed.
As for whether this helps or hinders theit works to restore public confidence, he'll wait and see what the supervisor can offer in terms of a common healthcare vision. He does believe however that, in time, thewould've been able to restore any doubts the public has about Niagara's healthcare system.
